Team Rider Guidelines
Interested in starting a team? Please review the NEW team rider guidelines to aid in your team planning.
Team Registration
•2 to 6 people can participate as a Team in the Habitat 500 (with ONLY ONE PERSON riding per day).
•New team riders may not begin riding on the last day of the ride.
•One registration fee of $200 ($225 after March 31st) for the team plus $50 per rider is required.
•The team is considered a single unit, so the minimum sponsorship funds to be raised for the whole team is $900 (though most teams exceed this amount raising $3,000-$4,000).
•One Team captain must be denoted as a main line of communication between the Team and the Habitat 500 staff. Unless otherwise noted, we will assume that the name and address listed with the original registration and check is the captain.
•The rider packet with all materials to be looked over and filled out by each team member will be sent to the captain.
•Each team member must fill out all of the forms required of any Habitat 500 rider.
Individual Team Rider Check-ins
•Each rider MUST arrive at the overnight location by 8 PM the evening BEFORE they ride, and spend the night in order to be prepared to hit the road early the next morning.
oEach team is responsible for transporting their rider to the start of a days ride the night before they are scheduled to ride, as well as transporting them back home after a days ride. (We would recommend a ride share where the rider who will ride the following day drives to the evening stop, and gives that automobile to the rider who finished that day for the trip home.)
•Staff MUST be alerted to your presence BEFORE you start riding in order to provide proper ride support.
oAll riders must check-in with ride staff on the evening they arrive to receive their registration bag including: rider number, ride t-shirt, road safety rules and guidelines, etc.
oWe recommend checking in during or right after supper to alert us to your arrival. The evening meal starts at 6:30 PM and is usually hosted by a nearby church, making it important that the team rider meet us at the overnight location by 6 PM to walk/ride over together.
oPlease join the group for supper, as it is a good time to start getting to know the rest of the riders, and important announcements about the following day are made at that time (i.e. route changes, cautions about dangerous intersections, tips about fun stops along the way, etc.).
•When a new team member checks in, we will assume they are the only rider from the team on the road that day. If there is a variance in this, or if one team member spans more than one day, please be sure to let us know. If you’re doing a ride-share, have the departing team member introduce the newcomer to the staff.
Habitat 500 Ride Rules (Required for All Riders)
•All riders must check in at Rest Stop #2, and when they arrive at the overnight location. Checking in with staff prior to your ride is absolutely essential. If you fail to check-in, we will not know that you are on the road and there will be no way for us to support you if needed.
•All riders MUST WEAR A HELMET at all times while on a bicycle.
Please refer to the Rider Handbook for more information about the Habitat 500 Bike Ride.
